BIBLICAL VISION FOR MISSIONS

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
~Matthew 28:19

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
~Matthew 24:14.

In response to God’s Word, our church mission is to glorify God by making disciples of all peoples. We partner with many different communities, organizations, and individuals (locally and globally) to accomplish this disciple-making vision.

There are 1.8 billion unreached people living in the world currently. As motivating as this number seems, our true motivation comes from Christ’s words,“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself” Luke 10:27. He states this in the context of speaking about the Good Samaritan, a foreigner. When loving our neighbors, wherever we live, this certainly includes the nations.

We have a deep desire to worship the Lord for eternity and see “…a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb,” Rev 7:9-10. This reflects God’s never-changing character to glorify Himself.Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” Ps 46:10. Why has God so graciously blessed us with much? So that His ways would be made known among the peoples,May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations” Ps 67:1-2. It is not enough to simply be thankful for God’s blessings without a response of obedience. By making disciples in a gospel-centered way, we desire to model our faith through Christ-motivated works according to His infinite love James 1:27, James 2:14-17, 1 John 3:17-18.

We put our vision into practice by focusing on the church. In order to see communities and people transformed, God uses his church body. We see James Island Christian Church as a member of the one church body around the globe. So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it” 1 Cor 12:25-26.

We hope that God’s Word speaks to you in His purpose of glorifying Himself both locally and globally. Prayerfully consider obedience to His Word, forThe harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field,” Luke 10:2-3.

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
