Weekly Questions:

This week is going to provide a great opportunity to see how Scripture reinforces Scripture and how we learn different things as we read various rotations of chapters.

1. Matthew 12:1-14.  Reflect back on the importance of the Sabbath mentioned in Exodus 16 and how God gave them two days of provision so that they could rest on the Sabbath day. In Matthew, we have an account generations later where religious leaders have made the regulation so legalistic that they believe it unlawful for Jesus to heal on the Sabbath.  Jesus does not fall into their trap.  Take notice of how he answers them and how he tells them that He is “Lord of the Sabbath.”  How does this give you a greater understanding of the importance of that day of rest?

2. Matthew 12:46-50.  Jesus is using an exaggeration here to make a point.   What is he saying here about the importance of obedience.  Contrast this with last week’s reading from Romans 12:1-2.  In what ways does reading the Word first each day pave the way for obedience?  Is there an area of your life where you know that God is pressing you towards obedience but where you have failed to follow through?  Tell someone else.  Allow someone to pray with you about taking steps of obedience in that area.
