jicc Kids
serving specifics

Thank you for your interest in serving the children of James Island Christian Church! Below are a few things to know before serving with JICC Kids. Please read them over before filling out the serving form.
Do I need to be a member at JICC?
No, but we do ask that you be a regular attender.

What is required to serve?
We ask that you complete the Information Form above, submit to and pass a background check (paid for by JICC), and sit down for a chat with our Children’s Ministry Director.

What ages do we serve?
We offer childcare for children aged 6 months through 1st grade during the Sunday service time.

How many people are needed to serve in JICC Kids?
Each room typically consists of a team of 3 volunteers (4 in Kids Breakout). Multiply that times the number of rooms (currently 6) add in  1-2 check-in volunteers and then multiply that number by the 4  weekly teams needed and you have the total number of people needed to serve the children. Bet you didn’t know you would have to do math, did you? The number is 48.  [(3 volunteers x 5 classes) + 4 Kids Breakout Volunteers + 4 Check In Volunteers] x 4 weeks=88. (And sometimes there are 5 Sundays in 1 month!). We are always in need of people to serve with the children. Please prayerfully consider if this is where God wants you to serve.

How often do I serve?
Each team cycles in to serve every 4 weeks. This means you will serve approximately once a month. About once a year, when there are 5 Sundays in a month, you may find that you serve the first and the fifth Sunday of that month, but it is still only once every four weeks.

What if I am unable to serve on my scheduled day?
If you know in advance that you are unable to serve, we ask that you seek out another JICC Kids team member to swap with you. We are here to help you with that. If it is an unexpected situation due to illness or similar, contact the director, Dena Johnson, or the coordinator for that Sunday as soon as possible to let them know you will not be there.

Can I pick where I serve and who I serve with?
We make every effort to place you where and with whom you most want to be. Sometimes that may not be possible due to the current needs, but we will make it a priority to make a switch as soon as it is possible to do so.

Can youth serve in JICC Kids?
It is wonderful when we have a youth helper in the room! They are more than welcome to come help out.
If the parent serves (or is beginning to), they are allowed to bring their own child with them when they volunteer. This is a great way to teach your kids about serving others. If a child wants to serve without a parent, we ask that they be at least 12 years old and have an adult prepared to serve with them and to take them under their wing. Some 12 year olds are more equipped to serve children than others, so please consider the capacity your child has before going this route.
