Discussion Questions
1. In verses 3-4 of Psalm 32, David notes some of the negative consequences of keeping silent about his sin. Have you ever had a time in your life where you had a similar experience?
2. In 2 Samuel 12 we heard about the prophet Nathan going to confront David about his sin. Have you ever had to confront someone in this way or ever been confronted in this way? Discuss some helpful ways to encourage and confront one another.
3. Psalm 32: 5 says that David confessed his sin and did not cover his iniquity and the Lord forgave him. What are some of the iniquities we try to “cover up” and how does confessing them to the Lord give us freedom?
4. When we accept the free gift of grace and acknowledge Jesus as our Lord, He is sure to guide us and surround us with songs of victory. Can you think of a time in your life when you felt the Lord leading you and surrounding you in this way? Isaiah 32:2 says the coming Messiah will be like "a hiding place from the wind, a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land.” Have you have a time where you felt this from the Lord?
5. The first verse of Psalm 32 says, “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and is whose spirit there is no deceit.” How have you experienced blessing from confession of sin?
