Key Passage: 1 Thessalonians 3
1 Corinthians 2:5
Romans 5:3-5
2 Thessalonians 3:5b AMP
Isaiah 40:29-31
“How does God’s Kingdom come? God’s Kingdom comes when our heavenly Father gives
us His Holy Spirit, so that by His grace we believe His Holy Word and lead godly lives here
in time and there in eternity.” - Small Catechism
“True, there will be opposition from ‘evil men’ and behind them from the ‘evil one’ himself. True also, they were engaged in spiritual warfare and so needed spiritual weapons: Paul had to preach and the Thessalonians had to pray. Yet behind his preaching and their prayer stood the faithful Lord Himself, who watches over His Word, and who confirms it by His Holy Spirit in the hearers’ hearts, so it works in them effectively.” - John Stott
“In any case, Christian love . . . is the effect of the outpouring of God’s love into His
people’s hearts by the Holy Spirit. The more they appreciate God’s love, the more they will
reflect it in their love to Him and to others.” - F. F. Bruce
“Our Father loves each of His children as if he had no others. We must peer into this abyss
of love; plunge into this sea; dive into this depth unsearchable.” - Charles Spurgeon
“The Love of God”
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin.
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure —
The saints’ and angels’ song.
“Where did this love come from? Not from anything outside of God Himself. God’s love
springs from Himself. He loves because it is His nature to do so. Nothing on the face of the
earth could have merited His love, though there was much to merit His displeasure. This
stream of love flows from its own secret source in the eternal deity, and it owes nothing to
any earth-born rain or stream; it springs from beneath the everlasting throne and fills itself
full from the springs of the Infinite.” - Charles Spurgeon
