What is the meaning of Pentecost?
1. Pentecost is not the first appearance of the Holy Spirit in biblical history, but it is however the first appearance of the fullness and permanent abiding presence of the Holy Spirit in and among God's people
2. It's the fulfillment of at least three prophetic words (John the Baptist, Joel, Jesus)
3. The one who pours out the Spirit is Jesus Himself
4. Pentecost is the birthday of the church
5. Pentecost is the reversal of what happened at the Tower of Babel

"At Babel, earth proudly tried to ascend to Heaven. At Pentecost, Heaven humbly descended to earth."

6 phenomena that occur as a result of the Spirit's having come at Pentecost
1. The Spirit fills and empowers God's people to boldly proclaim the truth of the Gospel
2. The empowering and dwelling presence of the Spirit was essential for God's people to carry out all their various ministries
3. The Spirit was poured out at Pentecost to empower God's people to perform signs and wonders to the glory of Christ
4. The Spirit provides guidance
5. It was by means of the power of the Spirit that God's people would exercise gifts like prophecy and speaking in tongues
