Discussion Questions

3DQ - 3 discipleship questions to ask each other: What is God saying to you? What are you going to do about it? How can I help?

Parents and Children: pay attention to the 3DQ questions above. These are questions that you can use at the dinner table, in the car. Take advantage of them to have heart-to-heart conversations with God as the center.

  1. Children: consider how you may be trying to understand first before you obey rather than just obeying. Is there an area in which you have been resisting the instruction of your parent(s) that you need to submit? Go to them. Bring it to light in confession. And then ask for their help to obey.
  2. Children: Is there a way that you have been distracted (through media, a busy schedule, etc.). How can you be intentional in creating intentional conversations with your parents?
  3. Fathers: Consider the challenge today to be
    1. Consistent instead of passive
    2. Gentle instead of harsh
    3. Loving instead of fearful
  4. How are you challenged by this? Make it specific to situations and share
with your friend or group. Now, read and meditate on Hebrews 4:14-5:2. Jesus knows what it was like to be tempted and yet was without sin. Call on him for help in these areas. Now read Hebrews 12:1-2 and pray for these areas together.
  5. If there is a situation of an absent father in any way, bring this before the Lord and before your friend/group together. Ask him how he sees the situation. Ask him in what way this area of lack can be redeemed and the path to healing.
