Ephesians 3:10
1. Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
2. It is the church’s act of affirming a believer’s faith in Christ's death, burial and resurrection by portraying the believer’s death to sin, burial of their old life, and resurrection into new life in Christ.
3. It is a believer’s act of obedience that publicly declares their commitment to Christ, thereby uniting them to the church and marking them off from the world.
We practice the mode of baptism by immersion because:
1. We follow the model of Jesus' action
2. We follow the meaning of the word Jesus used (βαπτίζω baptízō: to immerse, submerge)
3. We follow the other examples that we see in Scripture (Acts 2:38, John 3:23-24, Acts 8:36-38)
We don’t get baptized to receive forgiveness but because we have received forgiveness.
