jicc Kids
serving specifics

Thank you for your interest in serving the children of James Island Christian Church! We’re excited that you’re considering joining the JICC Kids team. Please review the information below before completing the information form and taking the next step toward serving with JICC Kids.
Do I need to be a member at JICC?
No, membership is not required. However, we do ask that you be a regular attender who is actively involved in the life of our church.
What is required to serve?
To serve with JICC Kids, you'll need to complete the above Information Form, successfully pass a background check (provided at no cost to you by JICC), and meet with our Kids Ministry Director for a brief conversation.
What ages do we serve?
We provide care and age-appropriate classes for children from 6 months old through 5th grade during our Sunday worship services.
How many people are needed to serve in JICC Kids?
Each Sunday, our JICC Kids ministry relies on a large team of volunteers to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children. Most classrooms are staffed by at least two adult volunteers (with four volunteers serving in Kids Breakout), along with a Dority Hall Floater, a School Building Floater, and a Check-In volunteer.

Because we serve on a rotating team schedule, it takes approximately 68 volunteers each month to care for and disciple the children of JICC. And in months with five Sundays, even more volunteers are needed!

We are always looking for faithful, caring adults to join our team. Please prayerfully consider whether God may be calling you to serve in JICC Kids and invest in the next generation.
How often do I serve?
Each team is scheduled to serve on a specific Sunday of the month, such as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or occasional 5th Sunday. To help our volunteers attend worship regularly, JICC Kids team members are typically scheduled to serve once per month.
What if I am unable to serve on my scheduled day?
If you know in advance that you will be unable to serve on your scheduled Sunday, we ask that you try to arrange a swap with another JICC Kids team member. We're happy to help facilitate that process if needed.

If an unexpected situation arises, such as an illness or family emergency, please contact our Kids Ministry Director or the Sunday Coordinator as soon as possible so we can make arrangements for coverage.
Can I pick where I serve and who I serve with?
We do our best to place volunteers in the age group and serving role that best fits their interests, gifts, and preferences. We also strive to accommodate requests to serve alongside specific individuals whenever possible.

At times, ministry needs may require us to place volunteers in a different role or classroom than requested. If that happens, we'll work with you and make every effort to move you to your preferred area as opportunities become available.
Can youth serve in JICC Kids?
Absolutely! We love having youth serve in JICC Kids. Youth helpers bring enthusiasm, encouragement, and a unique ability to connect with the children in our ministry.

If a parent is serving in JICC Kids, they are welcome to have their child serve alongside them. This can be a wonderful opportunity to model servant-hearted leadership and ministry as a family.

Students who would like to serve independently should be at least 12 years old and serve alongside an adult volunteer who is willing to mentor, support, and encourage them. Since every child matures at a different pace, we encourage parents to thoughtfully consider whether their student is ready for the responsibilities that come with serving in Kids Ministry.
