“There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to whom God says, in the end, "Thy will be done." All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell. No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. Those who knock it is opened.”

Discussion Questions

3DQ - 3 discipleship questions to ask each other: What is God saying to you? What are you going to do about it? How can I help?

  1. In Romans 2:1, what are some common ways we “pass judgment” on others—while excusing ourselves? We often judge others by actions but ourselves by intentions. Where do you see that in your own life (traffic-level everyday examples count)?
  2. Romans 2:4 says God’s kindness is meant to lead to repentance. What’s the difference between receiving kindness as permission and receiving kindness as an invitation? What are signs (practically) that a person is becoming hardened rather than tender under God’s patience (2:5)?
  3. Romans 2:6–8 describes two trajectories. Which “seeking” (glory-seeking vs self-seeking) most exposes what drives you this season? Why?
  4. Conscience can accuse or excuse (2:15). Which danger do you lean toward: wrongfully excusing or wrongfully condemning?
  5. What is one step of obedience that you can take this week in light of the truth you have received?
