Sermon Notes

Key Passage: Romans 10
Philippians 1:29
Mark 9:24
Jude 22
<atthew 14:28-31

1. God honors those who seek Him with their whole hearts.
2. It increases your faith in confusing times
3. Helps us understand the story of the world.
Humble Viewpoint towards unbelievers
Ignorance leads to disobedience.
Paul Contrast: Righteousness based on the law vs. Righteousness based on faith
Righteousness Based on the Law: Must be perfect
Righteousness of Faith: Must Trust Him Who is Perfect
Revelation of God’s Salvation Comes through the Person Jesus Christ.
How do the Mechanics of Righteousness by Faith Work?
Righteousness by Faith: Outward Confession, and Inward Trust
Content: The faith which is believed / Act: The faith by which it is believed
Belief: Persuaded to trust.
Some comfort for the doubter
1. Faith is to trust. Not the feeling of certainty. (Little faith still saves)
  • The Westminster Confession (14.3) says faith is "different in degrees, weak or strong," and though it is "assailed and weakened," it "gets the victory."
  • Faith in the Cornerstone
  • "Never make a Christ out of your faith" —Charles Spurgeon
  • "It is not, strictly speaking, even faith in Christ that saves, but Christ that saves through faith." —B. B. Warfield
  • The Ravenel Bridge carries the nervous driver gripping the wheel in the right lane just as surely as the commuter who crosses it every day without a thought. The bridge does the holding.
2. Doubt isn't the opposite of faith. Doubt is belief and unbelief in the same heart. Wavering between the two. The opposite of faith is settled unbelief.
3. There is mercy for the doubter, who still confesses(read repentance) and trusts.

Mercy for Calling Faith.
Doubt is belief and unbelief in the same heart. But even in two minds, if there's a mustard seed of trust that God is worth calling on, keep calling. That's calling faith. And Jesus met the father there, and Peter there, and He'll meet you there.

Preaching Faith: Demands a Response
The Response Won’t Be Ours to Control, but God is Still Working His Purpose in the Earth
Seeing this through the story of the Jewish People, but the message is true all throughout
