Romans 8:12-17 (JICC)
Sermon Notes
Key Passage: Romans 8:12-17
Ephesians 6:17
2 Corinthians 4:17
Where are you still obeying a master that Jesus has already set you free
from?
What sin have I stopped fighting?
Holy Spirit, what are you killing in me?
J. I. Packer: “Adoption is the highest privilege that the gospel offers.”
A slave says: “I better obey or the master will punish me.”
A son says: “I don't want anything between me and my Father.”
Do you relate to God more like a slave trying to earn His approval, or like a son or
daughter who already knows the love of their Father?
HOW DOES THE SPIRIT BEAR WITNESS?
1. We cry “Father” — vs.15
2. We begin to hate our sin — vs.13–14
3. The Spirit points us to Christ — John 15:26
What evidence can you see in your life that the Spirit of God is at work in you?
What are you unwilling to suffer or surrender now because you've lost sight
of the glory that is coming?
