Sermon Notes
Key Passage:
As the home goes, So goes the church
As the church goes, So goes the community
As the community goes, So goes the state
As the state goes, so goes the nation
1 Peter 3:7- Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way,
showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the
grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
Malachi 2:13- And this is the second thing you do: You cover the altar of the Lord with
tears, With weeping and crying; So He does not regard the offering anymore, Nor
receive it with goodwill from your hands. Yet you say, “For what reason?” Because the
Lord has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have
dealt treacherously; Yet she is your companion And your wife by covenant. But
did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks
godly offspring. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously
with the wife of his youth. “For the Lord God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For
it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the Lord of hosts. Therefore take heed to
your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.”
To the Husbands:
1. Make understanding your wife a priority.
4 x’s husbands are commanded to love their wives:
Ephesians 5:25- Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
Ephesians 5:28- So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:33- Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Colossians 3:19- Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
2. Treat your wife with value.
To the Wives:
1 Peter 3:1- Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if
some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of
their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. Do
not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or
putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the
incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight
of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God
also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, as Sarah
obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and
are not afraid with any terror.
What does Submission look like?
1. It means you recognize your husband has a need to feel like he is a leader.
2. It means he needs for you to be his biggest cheerleader.
